Replacements, Ltd. Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Free Mammograms for Associates

GREENSBORO, N.C., October 27, 2009 – Replacements, Ltd. is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month by offering free mammogram screenings to the company’s female associates Tuesday and Wednesday, October  27-28, 2009. Replacements began this program six years ago as part of its corporate wellness initiatives. The first year the company offered this program, 25 women participated; more than 100 are signed up to take part this year, including three first-timers.

“We recognize that many people are struggling to make ends meet right now and as a result are putting off preventative procedures so they can cover their daily living expenses,” says Jeanine Falcon, Replacements’ vice president of human resources. “The economy is basically forcing some people to gamble with their health care. That’s why it is more critical now than ever before for our company to take the lead and bring wellness initiatives like our mammogram program to our employees. Having wellness initiatives accessible is not only easier for the associate, early prevention helps protect our most important asset—our people.”

The company will chauffeur groups of participants by limousine to Alamance Regional Medical Center. Organizers have found by making the event fun and incorporating the added bonus of having friends and coworkers along for encouragement, more women are taking advantage of this potentially lifesaving procedure.

“When we go in groups and have each other for support, it really helps eliminate the fear factor surrounding what is often perceived to be negative experience,” says Carol Harris, Replacements’ occupational health nurse. “So many of our participants have told me they would not go on their own that we know camaraderie is a key factor in growing our program.”
