Replacements, Ltd. Ranked 174 in Top 500 Internet Retailers

GREENSBORO, N.C., May 18, 2007 – Out of tens of thousands of retail Web sites operating in the U.S., Internet Retailer magazine listed Replacements, Ltd. at number 174 on the magazine’s annual ‘Top 500 Guide’ for 2007.  The guide ranks America’s 500 largest e-retailers based on annual Web sales. This marks the first appearance for Replacements, Ltd., the world’s largest supplier of old and new china, crystal, silver and collectibles.  The company also ranked 15th in the Housewares/Home Furnishings category. 

“This is really quite an honor for us,” says Chairman and CEO Bob Page, who founded Replacements, Ltd. in his attic 26 years ago and initially kept its customer list on index cards stored in a recipe box. “We launched our Web site in 1998, so for us to already be one of the top 175 e-retailers is truly a great compliment to everyone in the company and is really a testament to our evaluation and execution of business opportunities on the Internet.”

Sales on the company’s Web site, www.replacements.com, were up 23 percent over 2005 and accounted for more than 65 percent of Replacements’ $80 million in business last year.

“I think we succeeded where others failed because we didn’t throw millions of dollars at our site from the start like many other companies did only to end up developing significant problems because they spent more than they were making,” says Jack Whitley, senior vice president of e-commerce.  “Instead, we developed our software in house according to our customer behaviors and then aggressively scaled our growth based on positive results. This allowed us to keep functionality and usability high so that our site really paid for itself.”

Replacements.com features more than 700,000 images and receives nearly 2.5 million visits and nearly 25 million page views each month.
